Dayton a finalist in 'Nicest Places in America' contest

DAYTON, NV (KOLO) -- It may be a small town, but Dayton is looking for big town exposure. It is a candidate for the "Nicest Places in America" contest.

Dayton is one of 50 finalists vying for the honor. Dayton resident Shelly Rosario nominated the town to Reader's Digest and it was picked to represent Nevada.

She moved to Dayton 14 years ago with her children after her divorce from Simi Valley, California.

"We love our small community and we love our small town. We are not big city folks," said Rosario.

She says the reason she considers Dayton the nicest is the people and the small town feel.

The Reader's Digest contest runs until July 21. The winning place will be on the cover of Reader's Digest.
