RENO, Nev. (KOLO) Damonte Ranch mounted a furious comeback on Friday night, beating Reed 49-45 to win their first Northern Championship in school history.
The Mustangs were down 31-7 at the half, but scored 21 points in a six minute span of the third quarter to cut the lead to three and make it a ballgame.
Cade McNamara scored on a quarterback run with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter to give them their first lead of the game. Reed marched down to the 31 yard line, but Cameron Emerson was intercepted by Bryson Toles at the five yard line with nine seconds to play to seal the win.
McNamara, a sophomore, accounted for five touchdowns in the second half. He threw for thee and ran for two.
Cameron Emerson passed for four touchdowns in the loss for the Raiders. He threw two each to Robert Ferrel and Michael Spivak.
The Raiders had won the last five straight Regional Championships.
Damonte Ranch (12-1) takes a 12-game winning streak into the State Semifinals. They will play Liberty (11-1) next Saturday at 1:15pm at McQueen High School. The Patriots beat Basic 58-14 on Friday night for their eighth win in a row.
