RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Nevada Highway Patrol continues to investigate a crash involving ten vehicles Friday on I-80.
About 2:30PM May 4, 2018, troopers responded to the crash on Interstate 80 eastbound between Wells Avenue and the Spaghetti Bowl. It was initially reported as a semi-truck and trailer that had overturned, blocking the eastbound lanes.
NHP says one person was extricated from one vehicle and one driver sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. Eastbound traffic on Interstate 80 was diverted onto Virginia Street. Traffic that had accumulated between Virginia Street and the crash scene east of the Wells Avenue onramp was also directed off Interstate 80.
Trooper Matt McLaughlin says the crash was caused by the driver of a passenger car making an unsafe move; the truck driver flipped while trying to avoid that car, and several other crashes were chain reactions.
Canned goods were being carried in the truck and fuel needed to be cleaned from the road before it could be reopened several hours after the crash
If you saw the crash happen, or if you have information about it, you're asked to contact Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team at 775-687-9617 or firstname.lastname@example.org regarding case #180500374.
