Community asked to weigh in on names for two new schools

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County School District is asking the community to weigh in on names for the new high school at Wildcreek and the future Career and Technical Education academy at Hug High School’s current campus.

The School Naming Committee selected eight semi-finalist names, and created a survey for the community to rank the names.

The new high school is being built on a portion of the Wildcreek Golf Course in Sparks. The district says the new campus will serve Procter Hug High School's existing zone, and will be large enough to take additional students to relieve overcrowding at other high schools.

Once the new high school is complete, the district will construct a modern Career and Technical Education (CTE) academy at the current Procter Hug High School location at 2880 Sutro Street in Reno.

The School Naming Committee plans to meet on November 6 at 5:30PM to narrow the list of submissions to three finalists before presenting the list to the Board of Trustees on November 12 for final consideration and a scheduled vote.
