Children's Week underway at Nevada Legislature

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - Children's Advocacy Alliance and the Nevada Institute for Children's Research & Policy is hosting a free event in Carson City March 11-14 to help raise awareness of children's issues and remind elected officials that Nevada's youngest citizens should be a priority.

This event is open to the public, but the public is asked to RSVP so they can have an accurate count of how many will be in attendance each day. Those who attend will be able to enjoy:

-Free advocacy training
-Meetings with legislators and their staff
-Tour of the Legislative Building
-Children's activities, such as crafts and a parade
-Free breakfasts and lunches

The purpose of Children's Week is to represent Nevada's Children and help strengthen families in areas such as school readiness, children's physical and mental health, and child safety and security.

For the past four legislative sessions, over 80 different non-profit, corporate, philanthropic, and state agencies and organizations have participated in the event.

Each day will focus on topics related to the day's theme, scheduled below:

Monday, March 11 - Children's Day
Tuesday, March 12 - School Readiness
Wednesday, March 13 - Children's Safety
Thursday, March 14 - Children's Health
