CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong is celebrating the return of the department's full-time Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Furlong says the Sheriff's Office was forced to cut the dedicated traffic unit during the economic crisis in 2010. He tells KOLO 8 News Now he was able to re-establish the unit using assets from marijuana arrests and seizures.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit will target speed violations and distracted driving.

Sheriff Furlong has also announced a partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno, whose University Police officers will be stationed to patrol the campus of Western Nevada College. The assignment of UNR officers was made possible with the support of the University Board of Regents.
