The Carson City School District warns a Texas company is asking for sponsorships to benefit Carson High School, but the company has no affiliation with the school district.
The situation came to light after a Carson City business received a solicitation from Game Day Media, which also uses Sports Media Marketing, saying they were working with the varsity cheer coach to sell souvenir cups, mini basketballs and banners for the next basketball season.
“After further correspondence with the Carson High School Athletic Director’s office, it was determined that this solicitation was false and possibly a scam,” the school district said in a statement.
News reports in Texas indicate the company is asking for money for schools for which it is not related, the school district said.
The Carson City School District is cautioning the community to confirm the legitimacy of a third-party-vendor through the individual school sites. Individuals or business interested in supporting sports teams at Carson High School should contact the Athletic Director’s Office at 775-283-1900.
