CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Carson City School District has announced the addition of two new School Resource Officers.

The District says the new positions were created thanks to $1.15 million in grant funding from the Nevada Department of Education.

The grant funding will also pay for facility safety improvements at Carson City school campuses.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says he plans to use current staff to fill the positions because they are already familiar with laws regarding school and student safety and they are experienced in dealing with crisis situations.

Of the two positions, one will be a supervisor. The second new officer will float between the district's two middle schools and six elementary schools.
