SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - The Sparks Police Department arrested two teens from California after finding them in a stolen car.

Investigators say a 16-year-old runaway was wanted for stealing three guns from a home in Pittsburg, California. He was also a suspect in an armed carjacking following the gun theft.

The 16-year-old allegedly picked up his girlfriend in San Mateo, then the two drove to Sparks.

On Sunday, September 1, 2019, officers with the Sparks Police Department found the stolen vehicle in a parking garage off Victorian Plaza Circle. When the teens attempted to get back in the vehicle, they were arrested.

Police say they found the three stolen guns inside the vehicle, and say there was no indication the guns were to be used during the Rib Cook Off.

The boy was charged with Possession of Stolen Vehicle and three counts of Possession of a Stolen Firearm. His girlfriend was detained until her parents could pick her up from California.

Sparks PD Detectives and Pittsburg California Detectives are working together on the case.
