CARPINTERIA, Calif. (AP) - Two sheriff's deputies in Santa Barbara County have been released from the hospital after authorities say they were injured during a violent attack by a burglary suspect.

Investigators say 33-year-old Sage Wyttenberg struck deputies with a pipe and a metal fan while trying to escape from deputies after his arrest Saturday morning.

Deputies say Wyttenberg managed to slip his handcuffs in front of him and charge out of the patrol car.

Authorities say they deployed a Taser and impact weapons after he attacked them, but that he continued to resist arrest. Additional deputies arrived and restrained him.

The two attacked deputies and Wyttenberg were briefly hospitalized with multiple injuries. Wyttenberg was later booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.

A relative of Wyttenberg contacted Sunday declined to comment.
