Reno, NEV. (KOLO) - Millions of Americans are expected to travel over Labor Day weekend. According to experts Thursday is the busiest day of this week.
The Industry Group Airlines for America predicted 17.5 million Americans will fly between this Wednesday and Tuesday of next week.
AAA projected more Americans will be on the roads this year compared to last year. TripAdvisor said 61% of those traveling will be driving and another 27% will be flying.
TripAdvisor’s Elizabeth Monahan suggests to keep this Thursday and next Tuesday in mind. She said, "This year, over one third of Americans will be traveling for that last long week of summer."
A lot of people consider Labor Day weekend the unofficial end of summer.
“Most folks are looking to spend time outdoors, soak up the nice weather before we're back into the back to school routine,” Monahan said.
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport said 20,000 burners will fly into Reno this week alone and expected to fly out early next week.
Monahan suggested to leave earlier than you normally would or even later in the day to avoid large lines and busy roadways.
