Reno fire crews say a mylar balloon led to a brush fire in a field near the SPCA on Spectrum Boulevard in north Reno.

The fire June 10, 2016 burned on Red Peak toward broadcast towers, but was stopped in that direction before flames got that far. No homes or other buildings were reported to be in danger from the flames.

Investigators say a balloon was caught in a power line and melted, sending burning mylar to the brush below.

The fire grew to less than five acres, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, which fought the flames with Reno Fire.
