PYRAMID LAKE, NV (KOLO) - Rescue crews have pulled a body from the waters of Pyramid Lake after a man was reported to have gone under while swimming Monday.

Washoe County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Harmon says about 12:20 p.m. July 8, 2019, emergency dispatch was called about a man who had gone under the water while swimming at Blockhouse Beach, at the southern end of the lake. Hasty Team and Search and Rescue members, plus a RAVEN helicopter, joined the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe in scouring the lake by boat and air looking for the man.

Just before 2 p.m., he was found about 50 yards from shore in water that was about 20 feet deep. He was pulled ashore and pronounced dead.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy and release the man's name after family has been notified.
