RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Big Reno Coat Drive is underway. That means you will see dozens of colorful donation bins at businesses around town. Just drop off any new or gently-used coats for men, women, and children. This is the 14th year of the coat drive and the need for children's coats keeps growing.
"We add on about 150 students each year," says Lindy McQuirk, Director of the Big Reno Coat Drive. "The more the coat drive becomes noticeable and the more we help, other schools hear about us, other families hear about us."
The Big Reno Coat Drive will run to November 30, 2018. The coats will be distributed this winter. For a list of drop-off locations, click here. The website also accepts monetary donations.
"We are also a nonprofit so we are accepting monetary donations," says McQuirk. "You can mail us a check, you can go to our website and make a safe donation. All the donations we get back go strictly to buying brand new coats for students here. We've partnered with clothing companies here in town so it allows us to buy brand new winter coats at a very great discount."
Last year, McQuirk says the Big Reno Coat Drive collected more than 5,200 coats for people in our community.
