TAHOE CITY, CA (KOLO) - The California Highway Patrol says a bicyclist was seriously hurt Tuesday on State Route 28 at Old Mill, northeast of Tahoe City. CHP had reported on its incident website the bicyclist was killed, but retracted that.
The crash happened about 7:40 a.m. June 18, 2019; the 16-year-old driver of a Subaru hit the bicyclist with his car. The driver stopped and called 911, and is talking with investigators, who don't believe the teen was impaired by drugs. They say the driver didn't see the bicyclist; initial information was that he may have had the sun in his eyes.
The cyclist was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment of what CHP says are major injuries.
CHP says the intersection is back open for normal traffic after being closed during the investigation. No charges have been filed.
