Fire at Reno apartments displaces three families

RENO, NV (KOLO)-- The Reno Fire Department extinguished a fire in an apartment building just south of Midtown Reno Sunday morning.

The fire displaced three families, the Reno Fire Department reports. There were no injuries.

One apartment was destroyed. The apartment below and an adjoining apartment sustained smoke and water damage. There were no injuries. Firefighters were trying to find a missing cat.

The fire in an apartment in the 200 block of Stoddard Drive was reported about 10:50 a.m. Firefighters arrived in less than four minutes to find the building with heavy fire and smoke and began an aggressive attack. The fire also spread to vegetation outside.

Crews report they stopped the fire's spread within 15 minutes.

There were evacuations in the apartment and firefighters went on the roof and inside the apartments to battle the fire. Smoke from the fire was visible across the Truckee Meadows.

The American Red Cross and the Reno Fire Fighters Community Assistance Program are offering assistance.

The causes has not been determined.
