A suspect in an Arizona murder who authorities thought might be in the Reno area was arrested Saturday near Doyle, Calif., about 40 miles north of Reno along U.S. 395.

Caleb Bartels, 27, is a suspect in the January 15 murder of Mesa, Ariz., high school teacher Ryne Zahner in Tempe, Ariz.

Authorities thought he might be in Reno, Sacramento or Oregon.

An off-duty California Highway Patrol officer saw a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle Bartels was thought to be driving near Doyle and notified CHP dispatch, the CHP said in a statement. Another CHP officer followed up and confirmed it belonged to Bartels. The CHP officer called for additional backup and authorities did a high-risk stop and took Bartels into custody without incident, the CHP said.

Arizona authorities are on their way to interview Bartels, who was booked into the Lassen County jail in Susanville, the CHP said.
