Man arrested for murder in Virginia City Highlands

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Storey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder that happened Sunday, January 26, 2020 in the Virginia City Highlands between Virginia City and Reno.

The sheriff’s office said a teenager in the house called authorities around noon and said that a woman in the home had a head injury.

Later in the evening, investigators say 54-year-old Janice McElhaney succumbed to her injuries.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office found the male suspect in the case in Incline Village and detained him.

He is being identified as 47-year-old William Collier. Authorities say Collier and McElhaney were in some sort of domestic relationship.

The Storey County Sheriff’s Office says Collier is being held in their jail on an open murder charge.

The investigation is ongoing.
