Police Identify Victim and Suspect in Fatal Fallon Shooting and Pursuit

FALLON, NV - The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the identities of the victim and suspect who died in Thursday's fatal high-speed chase and shooting in Fallon.

Trooper Chuck Allen says 22-year-old Eric Allen of Peyton, Colorado led authorities on a violent high-speed chase that included gunfire, after Walker River Tribal police officers pulled his car over for speeding in Schurz on Highway 95.

During the subsequent pursuit, Allen apparently slammed into a few cars along the way, one driven by 75-year-old Walter Summers of Richland, Missouri, killing him.

It all began around 5 a.m. Thursday, when the car the suspect was riding in was pulled over for speeding. The driver, Cory Reed, 20, from Little Rock, was pushed out of the car by suspect Allen before he took off behind the wheel and began the deadly high-speed chase, firing shots all the way.

Allen then drove north and eventually crashed into another car at Highway 95 and Taylor Street in Fallon, killing the elderly Summers. Officials say that is where another gunfight with police ensued before Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the official cause of death.

A Churchill County sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries to his face when he was hit with flying glass when his patrol car windshield was shot out by the suspect.

The original driver in this incident, Reed, is currently held at Mineral County Sheriff's Office charged with speeding and driving without insurance or license.
