CARSON CITY, NV (KOLO) -- A ten-day journey to honor veterans killed in action got underway in Carson City Friday morning.

Veterans and volunteers with Operation Battle Born will travel 400 miles to Las Vegas carrying 7,000 dog tags. The dog tags represent every person killed in action since September 11, 2001, including 58 Nevadans who died in action.

Nearly 300 veterans and volunteers across the state will participate, 100 of them being from Northern Nevada. It's a relay system, where they'll take turns carrying them.

"There has been a lot of sacrifice made over the last 18 years for just this generation and we felt it was important to recognize that sacrifice and welcome the community to join us in that effort," said Donald Stockton, veteran.

If you want to be a part of it, you can get in touch by sending an email to OperationBattleBorn@gmail.com.
