It was near the Preacher Mine area of the Pine Nut Range southeast of Gardnerville. It burned near where the Preacher Fire burned in July.

Sierra Front says the fire was about 122 acres and moved slowly through grass and pinion juniper. It was in an area that has seen numerous fires over the past several years and is surrounded by past burn scare areas.

No cause has been determined.

The fire between Gardnerville and Topaz Lake was reported about 7 p.m. December 28, 2017. It burned between Ray May and Leviathan Mine Road.

Two people in the area in a broken-down vehicle when the fire was reported were safely rescued.
