At least 40 guns stolen from local pawn shop

Police have released a photo of one of the suspects in a burglary at a local pawn store. Detectives are trying to identify the person and are reviewing additional surveillance photos.

Investigators also updated the number of firearms stolen to at least 40.

Secret Witness is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Reno Police say at least 20 guns are missing after a local pawn shop was broken into on August 13. RPD says the suspects entered at 4:30 a.m. but the alarm was not triggered until 4:55 a.m. The pawn shop is Hi Cap Pawn on South Virginia Street.

Neighboring business manager, Melissa Mitchell, says she arrived at work around 8:00 a.m. to find police, glass and debris covering her office.

"The people that entered my business broke down my windows and thrashed my walls," Mitchell says. "They didn't touch anything of mine, which is surprising, but they tried going through the ceiling and went through the wall and it was just scary."

Police believe the suspects made a hole in the wall that Maverick and Hi Cap share. Police say there are at least 20 guns, mostly semi-automatic handguns, missing.

"I never would have believed that somebody would have come through here," Mitchell says. She says in her six years with her company, nothing like this has happened here before.

Hi Cap moved into the space in February of 2018.

"They're awesome neighbors," Mitchell says. "The first thing they did was come over and say sorry and you know it's still just scary."

Despite the break in, Mitchell says business will continue as usual.

"We'll pick up and we'll move past this and it'll be alright but I hope they catch who did this right away.
