39-acre brush fire in Red Rock Road area controlled

RENO, NV (KOLO)-- Saturday update: The Bird Fire has been controlled, the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reports.

The fire grew to an estimated 39 acres.

Update: As of 9:55 p.m. Friday, the Bird Fire was 40 percent contained, the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reported. No new number is expected until Saturday morning.

Original story: The Bureau of Land Management is fighting a 40-acre brush fire in the Red Rock Road area north of Reno.

The Bird Fire was reported about 7:43 p.m. Friday. It is at Red Rock Road and Bird Springs Road. That is north of Animal Ark.

It is reported to be burning in grass and sagebrush. No cause has been determined.
