Carson City, Nev. (KOLO) – Twenty Nevada schools will receive $14.1 million from the Nevada Ready 21 digital learning initiative announced by the Nevada Department of Education, according to a news release issued by the Nevada Department of Education.

“This innovative digital learning program provides each student in a participating middle school 24 hour access to a laptop and supports teachers in providing engaging, authentic learning experiences,” Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction Steve Canavero said.

The 2015 Nevada Legislature approved Gov. Brian Sandoval’s Nevada Ready 21 program that helps students develop 21st century skills needed to fuel the economic growth of the state. Middle schools received the first portion of Nevada Ready 21 funding, which supports educators in their efforts to create more engaging and personalized instruction by providing the essential tools and the ongoing professional development to guide their transformation, according to the release.

The grant will assist schools in their planning and implementation of digital learning initiatives.

Professional learning for teachers and administrators will begin in late spring 2016 and continue throughout the program. Students will receive their laptop in the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
