Name released of woman killed in wrong-way crash on I-80

RENO, NV (KOLO) - The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the name of a woman killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 80. It happened between Mogul and Verdi just after midnight the morning of Thursday, July 4, 2019.

39-year-old Sarah Brand of Sacramento was killed in the crash.

Preliminary NHP investigation indicates the driver of a Kia sedan was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of 80, east of the Verdi exit. The Kia hit a westbound Mercedes SUV head-on. Brand was a passenger in the Kia.

The driver of the Kia was seriously hurt and taken to a hospital; both people in the Mercedes sustained minor injuries, according to NHP.
