RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County School District's Zoning Advisory Committee is seeking community input at its upcoming meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 17, 2019.
The Zoning Advisory Committee evaluates and makes recommendations related to school attendance zoning. The district says the goal of the meeting is to maintain open lines of communication with families when it comes to decisions affecting students.
At the meeting, the committee plans to discuss school attendance zoning for the 2021-2022 school year. As WCSD is constructing and preparing to open more schools, the District is changing school zoning boundaries in several neighborhoods for the 2021-2022 school year to alleviate overcrowding and accommodate growing numbers of students.
The district says the committee may also make recommendations on school zone changes that impact:
Galena High School and Reno High School, stemming from the zoning for the new Marce Herz Middle School and the associated changes to Pine Middle School and the students enrolled at Huffaker Elementary School
Damonte Ranch High School, Galena High School, and Wooster High School, stemming from the zoning of Marce Herz Middle School, affecting students enrolled at Corbett Elementary School and Loder Elementary School
Damonte Ranch High School, Galena High School and Wooster High School, stemming from the zoning of Marce Herz Middle School, affecting students enrolled at Dodson Elementary School, Donner Springs Elementary School, Hidden Valley Elementary School, and Smithridge STEM Academy
In addition, committee members will discuss:
The new elementary school under construction in the Cold Springs area and potential zoning changes that could affect Gomes Elementary School, Silver Lake Elementary School, Cold Springs Middle School, and O’Brien STEM Academy
The new Procter Hug High School being constructed in the Wildcreek area and potential zoning boundaries that could affect zoning boundaries at Spanish Springs High School and the current Hug High School
For the 2021-2022 school year, changes to school attendance boundaries are expected at the following elementary schools:

Tuesday's meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Pine Middle School, located at 4800 Neil Road in Reno.
