RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - 750 volunteers turned out, despite the wind and threat of storms, to help make a cleaner and healthier community.

The Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) annual Truckee River Cleanup had volunteers working at 22 sites along the river.

The 750 volunteers collected 20,510 pounds of trash and 77,853 pounds of invasive weeds and green waste. Volunteers also stenciled 223 storm drains, and distributed hundreds of educational storm drain door-hangers, wrapped 31 trees, planted 2,610 bulbs and plants, planted 2 pounds of seed, and removed seven tires.

The work helps to protect the environment, while also reducing fire risk.
