SPONSORED: The transformation of Virginia Street is underway in Midtown. The RTC is on schedule and operations are moving along on Virginia Street. The current construction zone is on Virginia Street between Liberty Street and Vassar Street. The RTC just moved operations to the west side of the roadway. During the cooler months, the RTC will be doing concrete work – such as sidewalks – and then when the weather warms up, they will repave this area.
Starting this spring, the project is going to move northward again as the RTC begins construction on the section of Virginia Street by the University of Nevada, Reno. The RTC is planning to make significant changes to Virginia Street between Interstate 80 and the UNR West Stadium Parking Lot, adding a roundabout on Virginia Street near the entrance to the West Stadium Parking Complex, adding RAPID transit stations, and improving safety. Construction is expected to start in March and continue through November.
It’s incredibly important for our community to continue to support Midtown businesses during construction. People can help by continuing to come to Midtown to shop, dine and enjoy entertainment. Even though there are cones in parts of Midtown, all businesses are open and accessible during construction. The project team has even created extra parking for people at the marked lot behind the Ponderosa, near Tahoe and Forest Streets – and extra marked parking in a lot on Mary Street near Haskell St.
