The Road Ahead with RTC: Virginia Street Project Update

By  |

SPONSORED: The RTC is continuing construction through the winter months. But, the kind of construction the RTC is able to do is a little bit different. One of the things the RTC can work on during winter is concrete. So you’ll see a lot of sidewalk and concrete work being done these next few months. As far as roadway paving, that’s something the RTC will need to wait for warmer spring temperatures to work on.

The RTC is making great progress on the Virginia Street Project in Midtown. They recently reopened the first segment of construction on Virginia St. from Plumb Lane to Mt. Rose – back to two-way traffic. Construction continues on the new roundabout at the Center Street/Mary Street intersection with Virginia Street. This new roundabout will provide pedestrian safety, traffic calming, and the ability to make a u-turn on Virginia Street to access businesses on the other side of the road. Construction on this roundabout will wrap up in spring of next year.

It’s incredibly important for our community to continue to support Midtown businesses during construction. People can help by continuing to come to Midtown to shop, dine and enjoy entertainment. Even though there are cones in parts of Midtown, all businesses are open and accessible during construction. The project team has even created extra parking for people at the marked lot behind the Ponderosa, near Tahoe and Forest Streets – and extra marked parking in a lot on Mary Street near Haskell St.
