The Road Ahead with RTC: Virginia Street Project Update
Construction has been underway for the past month, and the RTC is right on schedule. The RTC has multiple crews working throughout the corridor to help expedite construction operations.
Construction started on Virginia Street near Mt. Rose Street and continues down to Plumb Lane, while crews work simultaneously doing construction on side streets in Midtown. This will make some parking available on side streets as construction continues northward on Virginia Street from Mt. Rose to Center and then Center to Liberty.
The first part of our project was utility work, which was largely underground. This phase of the project is where you’ll really start to see the transformation take place, with features like wide sidewalks, new pavement, lighting and safety improvements. The RTC will also be adding about 240 new trees to the Virginia Street corridor.
The RTC is committed to keeping the lines of communication open with the community, and there are a number of ways to get project information. People can visit VirginiaStreetProject.com for information, or text VIRGINIA to 797979. People can also visit the project information office on Virginia Street, just north of the Z Bar. The RTC has staff available at the office on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thursdays from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. and by appointment.
We really encourage the community to continue to support Midtown businesses during construction.
