Progress continues on the Virginia Street Project in Midtown. Crews are currently working to complete storm drain work underneath Virginia Street between Center Street and Vassar Street, so that section is back to one-way, southbound traffic only.

Even though the rest of the project is back open to two-way traffic, drivers can still expect to see possible lane closures and traffic shifts as utility companies connect utilities throughout the corridor.

The first part of the project was utility work, which was largely underground. The next phase of the project is where you’ll really start to see the transformation take place, with features like wide sidewalks, new pavement, lighting and safety improvements. The RTC plans to start these improvements in June or July of this year and will provide more information about the exact start date as it gets closer.

The RTC is committed to keeping the lines of communication open with the community, and there are a number of ways to get project information. Head to

to get an overview of the project and sign up for stakeholder updates or text alerts. The RTC will also have weekly project meetings and plans to launch office hours during the next phase of construction. The RTC encourages people to reach out to them any time with comments or questions.
