The Road Ahead with RTC: RIDE FREE on Earth Day, April 22

By  |

SPONSORED: The RTC is helping our community go green this Earth Day with free transportation. Sustainability is important to the RTC, as is increasing ridership on our local public transportation. This year on Earth Day, Monday, April 22, the RTC will be providing FREE transportation on its transit services all day. Taking public transportation instead of driving a car helps our earth.

There is a variety of benefits to taking public transportation. For example, if you take a bus, you help reduce greenhouse gas emissions into our environment, which helps promote better air quality here in the Truckee Meadows. In addition, public transportation can ease traffic, and save energy and fuel.

The RTC has replaced 21 of its older-model diesel buses with electric buses and its fleet is now one-third electric. The RTC is moving toward a goal of having an all-electric fleet by 2035. The RTC’s two transit stations in downtown Reno and Sparks are LEED-certified facilities, meaning they’re environmentally friendly.

Reno Earth Day organizers are taking a break this year, but they plan to come back bigger and better next year. In the meantime, there are several smaller events taking place in our community and there are also things you can do every day to help our planet, like using less plastic, carpooling, biking, walking, taking public transit, recycling and composting. Every little bit helps the earth.
