The Road Ahead with RTC: NDOT Second St./Kietzke Lane Improvements
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is renovating sections of Kietzke Lane and Second Street to make them easier and safer to travel for all. NDOT wants to help keep everyone safe and connected on Nevada roads. That’s why NDOT is adding bike lanes and improving sidewalks on Kietzke Lane between Mill Street and Galletti Way.
NDOT will install flashing pedestrian crosswalk signals and make other improvements on West Second Street between Kietzke Lane and Keystone Avenue.
More than 4,000 pedestrians cross in one day here on segments of Second Street. And more than 20,000 drivers and pedestrians travel Kietzke Lane each day. This will help keep both drivers and pedestrians safer.
Jointly, NDOT and its regional partners have the ultimate vision of zero fatalities on our roadways.
NDOT dedicates up to $10 million in state highway funds to pedestrian safety projects every year. And transportation and public safety agencies across the Truckee Meadows are implementing targeted pedestrian safety improvements.
As NDOT helps enhance safety, they also want to remind drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists to always watch for each other and share the road.
There will be periodic lane, sidewalk and roadway shoulder closures as well as minor lane shifts and detours over the next few months.
NDOT reminds everyone to stay safe through the work zone!
