SPONSORED: The California/Keystone intersection is undergoing construction for major improvements. If you’ve ever driven, walked, or biked near this intersection, you know improvements are badly needed. When this intersection was constructed, the focus was only on cars. The RTC is working to improve the entire intersection to make it ADA-compliant, and safer for people walking or biking.
The RTC will be adding a 10-foot multi-use pathway on one side of California. That path can be used for walking or biking, and it will be separated from traffic to improve safety. Sidewalks will also be widened so people can safely walk through this area. And the stairway that connects Keystone to California will be improved so that it doesn’t lead pedestrians so close to moving traffic.
California is open to two-way traffic until about mid-July. After that, there will be a full California/Keystone intersection closure so crews can finish the improvements before Reno High School starts back up again. Please follow the signed detours that are in place.
As our community grows, more and more people choose to walk and bike in our neighborhoods. The RTC is working to make it safe for everyone to be able to get around in our community, especially people with disabilities, who can’t currently use the intersection at all. When the improvements are complete, this intersection will be safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
