The Washoe County School District Zoning Advisory Committee approved three zoning recommendation on December 17, 2019.

They changes would impact Galena High School, Reno High School, Damonte Ranch High School, and Wooster High School.

With the new Marce Herz Middle School set to open next school year in Arrowcreek, it will help relieve overcrowding at other middle school.

The impact of the proposed changes go beyond the four high schools and middle schools. It will also impact seven elementary schools like Dodson Elementary School, Huffaker, Donner Springs, Hidden Valley, Smithridge, Corbett and Loder.

Also, the opening the new Hug High School is creating a domino effect about where to send students in surrounding areas.

Parents were able to share their thoughts before the Committee considered Sixteen different zoning configurations for 8 schools during the Tuesday night meeting at Pine Middle School.

These recommendations will now go before the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees in January or February.
