RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Athletes 50 and older can sign up now for the 2020 Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games, a program dedicated to promoting and implementing fitness.
The Games officially begin on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, with the Opening Ceremony taking place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Baldini’s Casino. The Games conclude on Friday, February 14, 2020, with the Valentine’s Dinner and Dance from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Silver Legacy in Silver Baron Rooms, A 1-6.
Registration entries are accepted two days before the start of each event online here; or via mail or in-person delivery at one of the following facilities:
• Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center - 1301 Valley Rd.
• Neil Road Recreation Center - 3925 Neil Rd.
• Teglia’s Paradise Park Activity Center - 2745 Elementary Dr.
Competitors can participate in the following events: Archery, Basketball, Beanbag Baseball (team), Billiards, Bowling, Card Games, Climbing Wall, Cross Country Skiing/Snowshoeing, Fitness, Go-Karts, Obstacle/Ropes Course, Pickleball, Shuffleboard, Ski & Snowboard Racing, Swimming and Table Tennis.
There will be opportunities to compete individually, with a partner or as part of a team. Competitors vie for gold, silver and bronze medals according to gender, age and ability.
“Keeping seniors active and engaged in a fun and healthy way is critical to our success as a community,” said Reno City Councilmember Neoma Jardon, who is also a member of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. “We are fortunate to be able to offer seniors the chance for some friendly competition with their fellow community members.”
The registration fee is $30 per person, plus an additional $10-$20 per-sport fee. The registration fee includes a Winter Games T-shirt, pin and a ticket to the Valentine’s Dinner and Dance and Closing Ceremony. Additional Dinner and Dance tickets for competitor guests and the public are available for $30.
