This year's donations were added to some left over from the 2017 drive, which collected 515 fans, to donate to local seniors in need of relief from the record-breaking heat, with more 90+ and 100+ days then any summer in recorded Reno history. All 2018's donated fans were distributed except one, meaning the 2019 drive will take on added importance, with little left from the previous year.
The Carson City Senior Center, which joined the drive for the first time in 2018, distributed 110 donated fans.
ORIGINAL STORY: Hot summer days and nights can be hard on Washoe County’s elderly population. In an effort to provide some relief from the heat, KOLOCares and the Washoe County Human Services Agency are asking the community to donate new fans for seniors through August.
People aged 60 and older, who do not have air conditioning or are in need of fans to help cool their homes, are encouraged to contact Washoe County Senior Services at (775) 328-2575 or stop by the Senior Center at 1155 E. 9th Street, Building E.
Donated fans must still be in their boxes; they can be dropped off or picked up at Washoe County Senior Services at 1155 E. Ninth St., Building E, Reno.
The drive runs June 4 through Aug. 31, 2018. Drop-off or pickup is between 9 a.m.and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

1860 E. William St.
1539 Hwy 395.
2175 Market St.
