SPARKS, NV (KOLO) - The Food Bank of Northern Nevada held a special Mobile Harvest distribution May 1, 2019 in the parking lot of Baldini’s Sports Casino in Sparks.
This one-time special distribution included free fresh fruits and vegetables along with some shelf stable foods and is open to all people in need of food assistance.
Families are facing increasing need for food assistance in the region due to rising rents and other expenses. This distribution was designed to help reach families who are struggling to make ends meet and those who will benefit from assistance with their food budget.
“We are seeing many families who are working and still can’t make ends meet,” says Al Brislain, president & CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “It is our hope that families will reach out for assistance before their situation is dire. If getting food from us helps people pay their other bills, that is why we do this.”
The Food Bank holds 40 Mobile Harvest distributions throughout each month at varying times and locations. The program is open to all people who need help with food. This special distribution aims to assist families in need while raising awareness for the program as a whole. One in eight of the people living in northern Nevada is food insecure and one in five of our children do not know where their next meal is coming from.
