RENO, Nev.— (KOLO) Blending the game of golf by teaching life and leadership skills to Northern Nevada youth. First Tee, a non-profit is hoping you'll help continue its mission.
In late September, one of the organization's participants, Neil Babu, a Galena High Junior, qualified for the Pure Insurance Championship Junior Pro-Am in Pebble Beach, California which featured almost 80 golfers.
The Reno native finished third in the Junior tournament! This was only possible due to First Tee being able to not only coach Babu but help pay for his trip thanks in large part to donations.
“First Tee is an amazing experience, it allows you to gain opportunities to play golf and just anybody who wants to give golf a try who is a young kid should definitely join the First Tee,” Babu tells us.
Executive Director Chris Dewar adds, “It's really important for us to end our season but to be able to provide all the other kids that are involved in First Tee. 72 percent of our kids participate at no cost so it is a program where we want to impact and influence every young participant and every young kid in our community.”
The nonprofit is hosting one of its biggest fundraisers of the year on November 8th, The Giggles for Golf Gala at the Atlantis Casino Resort. Its taking place from 6-9 pm. For ticket information head here
