Fundraiser to help at-risk students is Thursday

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Communities In Schools (CIS) of Western Nevada is returning for its third annual Cappy Hour fundraiser, held at Dolan Lexus this year, for a fun-filled night Thursday, Feb. 21, from 5–8 p.m.

The evening will feature a gourmet dinner prepared by Butter + Salt Gatherings, a wine and signature cocktail selection, and a silent auction. A CIS of Western Nevada student will also speak about the impact of the organization.

With a goal of raising $20,000, the event will benefit the 4,300 at-risk Washoe County students served by CIS of Western Nevada and help 2019 graduates offset costs associated with graduation.

What should be a time of celebration for graduates can turn stressful for low-income students, as costs associated with graduation can run up to $250 per student. College testing fees can cost up to $75, non-refundable college application fees can range from $45 to $75 and cap and gown rentals may be as high as $85. Additional associated costs can include clothing for job and admissions interviews.

Tickets are $75 per person and include dinner and drinks. Tickets and sponsorship packages can be purchased on the CIS of Nevada website, or by contacting Auburn Harrison at (775) 686-0758 or auburn@cisnevada.org.
