Mike Stefansson is thrilled to be back in Reno as KOLO Sports Director. Mike grew up in the Biggest Little City, attending Silver Lake Elementary, O’Brien Middle School, North Valleys High School and the University of Nevada. During his final year in college, Mike interned at KOLO and worked part-time maintaining the station’s website.
Upon graduation, Mike embarked on his journey through broadcasting, which first took him to Billings, Montana, where he worked at KULR8. After grinding his teeth for three and a half years in the Treasure State, Mike moved to Spokane, Washington and joined the team at KHQ. As part of a six-person sports department, Mike had numerous opportunities while living in the Inland Northwest, from anchoring a nightly 30-minute sports show to calling state championship basketball games and the NAIA World Series (he also got some epic wedding advice from Washington State head football coach Mike Leach – you should Google it for a good laugh).
After two great years in Spokane, Mike was blessed with an amazing opportunity to come home. Being back with family and friends and covering the teams that helped make him a sports fanatic is something Mike doesn’t take lightly. He’s hoping to bring that joy to your living room each and every night.
Mike’s grown up quite a bit since leaving Reno in 2012. He’s now married to the love of his life, Amber, and together they have two spoiled-rotten dogs, MJ and Juice Box. Outside of work, Mike enjoys playing basketball, eating at his favorite local restaurants (he missed all-you-can-eat sushi more than he can explain) and just hanging with family and friends!
Feel free to reach out to Mike for scores, stories or just to say ‘Hey!’ He can be reached by email or on Twitter.
