Scattered thunderstorm chances remain through most of our 8-Day Forecast period as instability remains in our area. For now, this activity should calm down late in the week as afternoon highs rise back into the low 80s.

Reno topped out at 90 degrees this Saturday breaking the old record of 89 degrees set on 3 previous occasions. Another 30-percent chance for afternoon thunderstorms arrives for Sunday and in fact for most of the week ahead.

We'll have highs in the upper 80s today with mid 70s for Lake Tahoe. Afternoon highs jump into the low 90s from Thursday to Saturday with afternoon thunderstorms for Friday and Saturday late in the afternoon.

Mother's Day starts off sunny and dry but then a 40% chance of late afternoon thunderstorms moves into the Reno area. These won't be widespread but you will likely hear thunder during the afternoon and early evening hours. We will top out in the high 70s on Sunday but then jump to near 90 degrees by Thursday. Another slight chance for rain returns next Friday and Saturday.

Slight chances for afternoon showers persist through Wednesday afternoon but we will dry out as we finish the week with highs in the low to mid 70s. Highs in the low to mid 80s return for the coming weekend with a slight chance for thunderstorms by late Sunday.

Monday will continue with warm highs in the upper 70s and lows in the 40s. Winds from the SW will increase on Monday and Tuesday dropping our afternoon highs into the lower 60s by Thursday. Next weekend we'll rebound into the upper 60s.

Snowfall will continue overnight in Tahoe and Reno so tomorrow morning's commute could have some problems. We're only expecting an inch or so in Reno but Tahoe could see 12 inches at Lake Level with 1 to 3 feet of snow above 7,000 ft. We'll dry out by Thursday through the weekend.

We will see rain returning to the Reno area Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. It'll turn to snow by Wednesday morning resulting ion 1/2 to 2 inch totals in Reno with 3-5 inches in the foothills. The Sierra over 7,000 feet could ge3t 2-3 feet.

The Reno area received between 6 and 8 inches of snow last night in a 4-hour period. There's more on the way this Tuesday and Wednesday. Another 2-3 feet will fall in the Sierra with another 1-2 inches on the Valley Floor.

Saturday evening's dump of light snow saw some locations collecting almost 2 inches in about 2 hours. Our next chance of something like that arrives on Tuesday and Wednesday this coming week. Reno could see another 2 to 3 inches by then with another 2 to 3 feet in the Sierra. Saturday's burst of snow represents Reno's 53rd day of snow on the ground this season.

Light snow flurries are still possible today as the sun tries to poke through a thick deck of clouds. More sunshine returns for the rest of this week with highs in the mid 40s. Another winter storm moves into our area for the coming weekend with highs returning to the upper 30s. A major winter storm system is moving back into our area creating hazardous travel conditions that will run from Monday to Wednesday. Winds in the Sierra will create Blizzard conditions with snowfall totals between 4 and 6 feet above 7,000 ft. Foothill snow totals in Reno will likely reach 12-16 inches with valley locations seeing 8 to 12 inches through Wednesday morning.
