Abel Garcia

Although Abel Garcia was born in Southern California, he moved to Northern Nevada at a young age and considers the Silver State his home. After graduating from Spanish Springs High School, he pursued a degree in Business Management at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Once he realized he loved storytelling, Abel decided journalism was a good vehicle to fulfill his passion, so he joined the KOLO 8 News Now team in October 2017 as an intern. After getting a taste of what KOLO 8 was all about, Abel realized this was the career he wanted to embark on, and made his way up through various positions, starting as a video editor, photographer, and now a Multi-Media Journalist.

He has covered important issues like the impact of coronavirus throughout Northern Nevada and plenty of breaking news from the Argenta Hall explosion at the University of Nevada, Reno to the riots after the peaceful Black Lives Matter Protest.

When Abel is not working, he enjoys riding his horses, practicing for the Mexican rodeo (Charreria), exploring the outdoors, and spending quality time with family.

Abel loves being part of the Reno community, so if you see him out about be sure to say hello.
