Pedestrian killed crossing US 50 in east Carson City

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -8 P.M. UPDATE: A pedestrian died Thursday while crossing U.S. 50 in east Carson City, the Nevada State Police said.

It happened about 6:17 p.m. near Nye Lane. The pedestrian walked across U.S. 50 outside of a crosswalk and was hit by an eastbound vehicle.

There was reduced visibility due to darkness. Speed and impairment were not factors, the NSP said.

The driver cooperated with authorities.

Traffic is moving one way in both directions but has been slowed. U.S. 50 is expected to reopen no sooner than 9 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: A fatal accident has closed eastbound U.S. 50 near Nye Lane in east Carson City on Thursday evening.

The crash happened about 6:17 p.m.

There is no estimated time of reopening.
