RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Five people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a south Reno apartment fire Monday night. It was reported around 9 p.m. at the Sherwood Apartments on Robinhood Drive. According to Reno Fire, one apartment suffered heavy smoke and fire damage, while 8 others were evacuated.

Animal control also responded to the fire because dogs were in one of the apartments at the building.

Fire crews will monitor the area. Red Cross is working with those displaced by the fire.

Crews suspect the area of origin is a kitchen in one of the apartment units, however investigators are working to determine the exact cause.
