RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Jenna Siska is a mom by day and an entrepreneur by night.

She owns Newberry Cookie Co. And she doesn’t sell your mom’s average chocolate chip.

They’re sugar cookies topped with royal icing and the most intricate decorations you can think of.

Siska first saw a blog about royal icing during the pandemic and the rest is history.

“I was like ‘Oh I’ll try that the next week’ and I tried it and I loved it,” she said.

It’s a chance to be creative because she doesn’t copy or recreate any cookies. Each set is unique.

“I love taking an invitation and party décor inspiration photos and I like to design an entire set based on those alone,” Siska said.

“Whether it’s like a floral detail, or a detail in that invitation or a certain color palate and then I’ll just expand from there.”

After getting her kids to bed, sometimes she’s up for hours on end.

“Sometimes I’m up until 1, 2 a.m. and sometimes I’m up until 4 a.m.,” Siska laughed.

But she says once you find something you love, it’s worth going all in.

“And sometimes, you might be lacking in sleep but you will feel so fulfilled doing something for just you and not someone else,” she said.

The cookie community in Reno is mostly women and Siska says they’ve come together to help each other maintain their businesses.

“They’re there to support you whether you need a cutter or a friend to take your kid for an hour,” Siska said.

“Just everybody’s there for each other.”
