WCHD holds Spanish Town Hall on health permits
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County Health District held a Spanish town hall Thursday to keep the Hispanic community educated on the importance of a health permit.
“We’ve been seeing a lot of people selling food out in mobile carts and a lot of them sometimes don’t have permits.” said Christabell Sotello Zeceña with the Washoe County Health District. “So we just wanted to increase the knowledge out there and get people to come in and ask questions.”
Topics included food preparation and how to go about getting a permit.
“Basic information is needed,” said Sotello Zeceña. “Your name, contact information. We don’t ask for your social security number or date of birth. Just really basic information. We also need to know what type of food you’re wanting to sell and if you’re looking to have a restaurant or mobile unit.”
Town Halls in different languages are important for the health department because they want to make sure information is accessible to everyone.
“We want to even out the playing field so to speak. Make sure people who want to sell food can do it and sometimes that means making the information available in multiple languages.”
