Suspect in stable condition after being shot in Washoe Valley

The suspect allegedly fled from an accident in south Washoe Valley before being shot in north Washoe Valley.

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -UPDATE: 5:40 P.M. A suspect is in stable condition at a hospital after a shooting Wednesday afternoon by a Nevada State Police trooper in northern Washoe Valley.

It began in the Bellevue area near southern Washoe Valley when there was a two-vehicle accident, state police said in an update. A vehicle involved in that accident left the scene and a trooper found it in the area of the Chocolate Nugget Factory towards the north end of Washoe Valley.

The person associated with that vehicle was walking on Parker Ranch Road underneath the Interstate 580 overpass and that’s where the shooting took place.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Nevada State Police confirmed there was a trooper-involved shooting this afternoon near the Chocolate Nugget Factory in north Washoe Valley.

The trooper was not injured but another person was shot and taken for medical attention.

Several law enforcement agencies responded.

Northbound traffic is backed up on Interstate 580 almost to Carson City, according to a crew on scene.

In Washoe Valley, Parker Ranch Road is closed at U.S. 395 Alternate to Corry Canyon Way.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is now part of the Nevada State Police.
