PLANTERSVILLE, Texas (KBTX/Gray News) - A missing 3-year-old boy has been found alive in the woods four days after walking away from his parents in Texas, the Grimes County sheriff confirms.

“Great news! He’s alive and well,” said Grimes County Judge Joe Fauth.

The Grimes County Sheriff’s office said Christopher Ramirez is under the care of doctors and nurses at Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands, according to KBTX. The child is tired, dehydrated and hungry but in good spirits and overall healthy, after being found about five miles away from his house.

He will stay at the hospital for a period of time for observation.

Sheriff Don Sowell spoke about the relief and excitement of finding Christopher after an exhaustive search.

“It was wonderful to get that call saying I think we have him, and to see him alive and drinking water,” Sowell said. “He was excited. To see his mother embrace him was just very touching.”

The sheriff said someone called authorities after hearing something outside. Crews responded and found Christopher in the woods near the 7700 block of FM 1486.

Sowell said despite the tough days and nights, he along with over 200 search and rescues teams and over 40 local, state and federal agencies never lost hope.

“You know, we were just, we were running on prayers, 4-wheel drive and overdrive, to be honest with you, because we had nothing else,” Sowell said.

He said he spoke with the man, who wished to remain nameless, that found Christopher. The man said God told him at Bible study Friday evening to go look for Christopher, and he found him the next morning.

Christopher had last been seen following the family dog into a wooded area Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
