RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Preparations are already underway for this year’s Free Fishing Day at the Sparks Marina. Cabela’s handed off a generous donation of 70 rods and reels to the Sparks Rotary Club on Thursday. Every year, Cabela’s gives a large portion of the rods it receives from trade-ins back to the community.

Assistant General Manager Mike Aiazzi says it’s all in an effort to get more kids interested in outdoor recreation.

“The more people that get involved in the outdoors, and understand it, and help protect it and take care of it, the better off we are as future generations,” Aiazzi said.

Free Fishing Day will be held at the Sparks Marina on September 18. Kids will have a chance to catch fish with a free reel provided at the event. The Sparks Rotary Club hopes to collect more than a thousand rods and reels for the event.
